Brian Cox
Brian grew up In Sheffield
in England, the home of cutlery, where his first job was as accounts
clerk with a cutlery manufacturer. He now lives in Newcastle NSW, where
he searches op-shops and second hand businesses for spoons and forks.
So low did a respected
"engine turner", believing himself to be non artistic end up
crafting jewellery sought by women around Australia and overseas ?
Brian began making rings and bracelets as Christmas presents for
relatives and friends using cutlery he found around his home. After
mastering the difficult art of shaping the metal, he found that that by
simply looking at a fork he could see its new shape.
His jewellery has been
exhibited widely in collection in Australia and overseas. His work has
appeared In 'Harpers Bazaar'. 'In Style' and 'Craft Art International'
magazines. There have been numerous newspaper articles written about
Brian and his work. He has also appeared on two TV Shows, one being the
highly respected Small Business Show on Channel 9 shown nationally.
In this age of recycling
it appears almost everything has another use, including discarded
cutlery.
"The metal itself is Nickel Silver (not Sterling Silver unless indicated
as such). It is therefore important that you be aware this. Nickel
Silver not a precious metal. In fact it contains no silver of all. Its
composition is Nickel, Copper & Zinc and for this reason it displays a
range of colours from an almost brassy gold to a bright almost
untarnishable stainless steel appearance.
One of the most frequently
asked questions Is "Does it tarnish?" In the case of my jewellery, the
degree to which it will tarnish is governed by a number of factors not
the least of which is the frequency of which it is worn.
Wearing the jewellery regularly will help prevent it from tarnishing.
Other factors include the actual composition of the metal i.e.; low much
copper was used in the original mix. The more Gold the appearance, the
more Copper is In the metal and the quicker it will tarnish. The more
Silver the appearance of the item the less it will tarnish, some pieces
seeming not to tarnish at all.
Having said all this, feel
confident that your Bryan Cox jewellery will stay looking beautiful for
a very long time never requiring anything more than a quick rub with a
silver cloth to keep its original lustre.
