CATHERINE TANG
Silver Wire and Gemstones from Hobart
I come from a background unrelated to jewellery making. I started my
professional career as a physiotherapist, then became an academic until
I moved to Australia in 2003. However, I have been interested in arts
and crafts ever since I won a prize in needlework in my early school
years. I have been engaged in different forms of creative handicraft
ever since. I thoroughly enjoyed the art of creating and producing
beautiful things while searching for a specialty that would become the
focus of my artistic work.
I still remember the joy that I had when I made my first piece of
jewellery over ten years ago. This marked the beginning of a passion
that has remained to this day.
I now specialize in silver wire and gemstones. The purity and elegance
of sterling silver and the fascinating colours and lustre of gemstones
make a perfect combination for creating unique pieces of jewellery.
Reading magazines, discussing and exploring with other creative artists,
I keep trying to explore new techniques and new ways of designing. I
attend courses in related arts for new inspirations for my designs.
The interest that started when I won my prize in needlework as a young
schoolgirl has now developed into a passion of designing and making
jewellery with silver wire and gemstones.
