DAVID BLACK
David Black began his
apprenticeship in Jewellery making in Johannesburg in 1980 at a time
when gold reached a peak price of $800 per ounce. So expensive that
every little bit had to be re-used. This was a discipline that he has
turned to a benefit in his present work - by encouraging clients to
re-cycle old and unused jewellery into new items that he personally
designs and makes. Clients are happy with the knowledge that David's
designs mean loved pieces have a new lease of life.
After completing his
apprenticeship in 1984 David spent a few years in London gaining
experience and widening his work skills. He was fortunate to work for a
manufacturing jeweller who made jewellery for many of the stores in Bond
St. London. The intricate and high expectation of workmanship needed to
make exquisite jewellery was something David enjoyed and approached with
enthusiasm. The work he undertook at that time was of such a high
standard he was commissioned to make an intricately worked stand in
18 carat gold for a genuine Faberge Egg.
1988 saw David arriving on
Australian shores and after working in Brisbane for six months he
started his own jewellery manufacturing business. David enjoys
experimenting with Platinum and Gold and prides himself on using the
best quality stones and the most painstaking craftsmanship to make
individual pieces that satisfy the most discerning eye.
David is also happy to
discuss new commissions using any of the noble metals and can supply
beautiful gemstones as well as semi-precious stones to make individual
single pieces or whole suites of matching sets. The range of work on
display here is only a small selection of his diverse talent.
