Monika Nommel-Douglass
ARTIST
KNITWEAR DESIGNER
JEWELLERY DESIGNER
GOLDSMITH
Monika combines a long
history of designing, working with yarns, and goldsmithing skills to
create uniquely individual jewellery pieces.
Since her teens in
Germany, Monika has designed and created knitwear. In order to enhance
her designing abilities during the 1980s, Monika attended and graduated
from the School Of Colour and Design in Sydney. Her formal designing
skills have been further developed with attendance at various
institutions including a year at the Brisbane Institute of Art.
Monika's knitwear has been
exhibited widely through galleries in The Rocks and Double Bay in
Sydney, and numerous outlets in Adelaide and other cities.
In 1993 Monika won the
National Bank Wearable Wool Award for one of her designs. She has also
designed knitwear for several organisations including The Australian
Alpaca Association and Bendigo Woollen Mills. In 1994 Monika published a
Magazine of her designs.
A move to Brisbane from
Adelaide, and a lifelong love of jewellery, brought Monika to the
Goldsmith's School in Brisbane. Monika now combines all these skills to
produce unique jewellery including knitted items in silver and gold of a
quality that can only be achieved through 25 years experience in
manipulating yarns.
In 2001 Monika won first
and second prizes at the RNA jewellery competition and Monika continues
to exhibit in Sydney and Canberra as well as Brisbane. Her work is sold
in Germany and Australia.
Monika is one of the
permanent artists at Brilliant Facets Jewellery and Fine Art Gallery.
